What is Spa Dentistry?
Spa Dentistry has been around for several years. In fact, its roots can be traced back to 1978 to the Holistic Dental movement. Holistic Dentists were focused on treating the “whole person” and not just the teeth. But for many, the delivery of care stayed the same. It was still drill and fill in the presence of glaring overhead lights, medicinal smells, harsh sounds and cold rooms. Dr. Janet Hatcher Rice's personal journey in dentistry began early, at the knee of her father. But after years of dentistry, first as a hygienist and later as a dentist, she knew that if she was to be fulfilled professionally, she would need to venture out on her own path. It was during her quest for wellness in alternative places that the idea of a different way to practice dentistry evolved.
Spa Dentistry began as an idea about incorporating advancements in dental technology and techniques into a spa atmosphere centered on the individual. Providing dental care is personal and intimate. We touch people physically and we need to make patients feel comfortable, safe and understood.
From the moment you walk into this practice, your senses are awakened with aromatic smells, sounds of soft music, muted lighting and muffled sounds. We offer a beverage, a warm neck wrap, a blanket, lip balm and dark glasses. After researching the options, Dr. Janet Hatcher Rice came up with products and services that complimented her laser and cosmetic practice. The concept is still evolving but now she looks forward to working in an office that reflects her personality, her interests and those of her patients creating an atomsphere that is conducive to sharing and awareness.
